Communications Minister Helen Coonan says her plan to change Australia’s media ownership rules could be put before Parliament next week.

If successful it will lift restrictions on foreign media ownership, and allow companies to own a newspaper, radio and TV station in the same market.

While Nationals Party MP’s have strong concerns about the changes controversal MP Barnaby Joyce has gone on public record saying he will not vote for the changes.

Senator Coonan is continues to talk to colleagues in relation to the proposed changes, looking at as many different angles to see just what impact they may have. She said today “It may be next week … It depends of course on the program,” she said.”We’re having very constructive discussions, I take none of my colleagues for granted and we continue to work through issues that they raise.”
