Australian singer Missy Higgins was discovered through triple j’s unearthed competition and now the youth radio station is looking for unsigned songwriters for a new contest.

The station has launched the Flesh It Out Unsigned Songwriter competition, following triple j’s success at exposing a plethora of talented musicians since the unearthed program began in 1995.

In the past triple j’s unearthed competition has unveiled some of Australia’s greatest solo artists and bands including Grinspoon, the Sick Puppies and Killing Heidi, plus six time ARIA award winner Higgins.

The Flesh It Out competition hopes to uncover some of Australia’s best solo or duo songwriters.

The winner of this latest initiative will be invited to attend a special music event, the Fuse Festival in Adelaide in March, to showcase their skills to industry experts, as well as have their song recorded.

They will also embark on an intimate workshop led by three of Australia’s top songwriters including Rob Hirst and Jim Moginie of legendary Aussie band Midnight Oil.

Aspiring songwriters should upload their chosen piece of music to triplejunearthed.com by midnight February 25.

The winner will be announced on March 7
