On Thursday the 29th of April 1937, the Strand Palais was filled with people waiting eagerly for the first broadcast of 2CR (Central Regions). The Orange Leader, the predecessor to the Central Western Daily described the opening with a lot of flourish:


“On the softly hissing carrier wave which was to be heard a few minutes before 8 o’clock last night was intruded on the stroke of the hour an announcer’s voice, a burst of music, and another voice – that of the Mayor of Orange, Dr. W.F. Matthews.” Full article ABC
