Smokie Dawson has passed away today at the age of 94. The veteran country music artist (reportedly the oldest recording artist in the world) is also being remembered for his long running radio show 'The Adventures of Smokey Dawson' which had over a ten year run from 1952. The show was networked to over 65 stations and it was that show that gave Smokie the title of Australia's first cowboy.

Smokey was born Herbert Henry Dawson in Collingwood, Victoria, raised in the rural area of Warrnambool. He was orphaned at a young age. He met his wife, Dot at 3KZ and they were married in 1944. Dot or 'Aunty June' as she was known then was a very successful radio actress in the 1930's and 40's.
Smokie was still recording country music until recently and is survived by his wife Dot.
