Defiant broadcaster Derryn Hinch said he was morally right to name and shame sexual offenders and will fight charges of breaching court orders.

Hinch, 64, on Wednesday appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on charges of breaching five Victorian County Court suppression orders.

It is alleged Hinch named the offenders at a victims of crime rally on the steps of the Victorian parliament in June and on his website.

Outside court, Hinch said he did the right thing by naming the offenders.
