The new digital radio format began broadcasting in every other state capital on July 1, offering a greater range of ABC Radio channels and commercial radio stations. Users must buy a digital radio to receive the signal. It offers better sound quality, more stations and less interference. It also offers on-screen information and an ability to pause or rewind live radio. Some Hobart retailers are selling digital radios despite the service not being on the horizon any time soon.
