3AW covered the greater percentage of the Lleyton Hewitt  tennis match last night with the coverage stretching to the Nightline relay stations across Victoria and Southern NSW. Those country stations enjoyed the broadcast making a welcome alternative to the ABC coverage.

Tracy to Mix it up

 We first heard the rumour in early December, although with the departure of Jane and Paul from MIX 101.1 breakfast the rumour mill is in full swing for Tracy Bartram to join the station. Rumoured co-hosts include Peter Moon, Tim Smith and Matt Hardy.

Perth’s 929’s New Breakfast Show has moved a step closer. We can reveal that Em, Wippa and Ollie will kick things off from the 30th of January. More details to come.

SEN in talks with AFL

The AFL and SEN are in discussion with a possible outcome of the AFL purchasing part of SEN. This would no doubt change the face of AFL on radio in 2007.

Nova babies

 Nova brekkie host Tony Moclair and wife Kate have a baby on the way.Apparently, Kate is suffering with morning sickness. The baby is due in July. Must be the water - Jules Schiller has daughter Sofia and Jodie J Hill gave birth to son Tasman Crawford in August.

MIX101.1 breakfast moves

14 Jan  Breakfast team Jane Marwick and Paul Holmes will not be returning to Mix 101.1. The duo were expected to return this coming Monday and a midweek media item indicated this was the case. MIX has struggled in the all important breakfast shift for quite a while and no doubt new PD Mark Johnson has his sights set on a natural winning breakfast combination.  Expect an announcement on the new team soon. 

Mike & Fitz

2UE’s Mike Carlton has long been rumoured to be getting an on air partner, so it is with little surprise that the new partner is actually his longtime fill in Peter Fitzsimmons. (suggested on radionews.com.au over 12 months ago} . From this coming Monday the pair will share the airwaves each morning, bringing 2UE  inline with sister stations  4BH, 6PR and 3AW all of who support a tandem breakfast team.

2QN/Classic Rock changes

As previously mentioned here there are more changes taking place at Classic Rock/ 1521 2QN. Rod Shephard who covers afternoons on 2QN (as well as sister station 3NE) bids farewell and will be replaced by Graham Munson. Replacing the recently departed Craig Huth on Classic Rock breakfast is Matt Conlon.

6IX nights

With Tony Hartney juming ship from 6IX to rival 96FM, Steve Nicola has slipped into Tony’s night show on 6IX.

Kylie joins ABC Darwin

Kylie Simmonds former  news presenter and police rounds reporter with 2UE and more recently a producer with SKY NEWS has accepted a position with the ABC in Darwin as their police reporter, environment and mining reporter. Kylie recently won the prestigious Brian White Memorial Award for her journalism with  2UE and in 2004 was a Walkley finalist for her radio stories.

TripleM drive

Mike Mclean will cover sport news on Triple M drive from today. Mclean is part of Triple M Football and also had a brief stint presenting a Saturday night program on SEN 1116 in 2004.

Cliff becomes a star

Cliff “Skater” Kern is the new Breakfast host on Star FM Albury replacing Liam Renton who is now with Christian Station 96.5 fm in Brisbane.Cliff will  be teamed up with current co host Lisa.

Vanessa on the move

Vanessa Wilde is heading to Edge FM / Solid Gold 3NE in the role of announcer / copy writer. More recently Vanessa was with 3BA FM / POWER FM Ballarat although prior to that she was with CLASSIC ROCK / 2QN.

AFL to 7 now for radio

The AFL Television rights for 2007 -2011 have been awarded to Channel 7 and 10 so it looks like Bruce will be back calling some very special matches from 2007. The AFL this afternoon announced its decision on the $780 million broadcast rights deal. This makes it all very interesting for when the radio broadcasting rights come up. The big question is how much will the radio rights be worth to the AFL and which station(s) can afford them?

Wilbur has the drive!

Wilbur Wilde wraps up his Summer breakfast program this friday and then moves into Vega afternoons for a week. It has been suggested that Wilde will be part of the fulltime line up in 2006. Francis Leach returns to Vega from holidays on the 16TH of Jan.

Mike Byrne goes for gold

A new year and a new Program Director at GOLD 1043 Melbourne with Mike Byrne making the move south from Newcastle. Mike is currently the PD at NX - KO FM  and will commence in Melbourne on the 30th of January 

Back from hols

Next Monday will see many regular presenters and announcers return to their normal shifts right across the nation. In most cases it will be the same old same old! Although we hear of a couple of regulars look like being replaced by their summer fill in. More to come on this one.

Sad news from Queensland with the passing of John McCormack long time Chief of 4TAB former Genaral Manager of various  stations including 4MB and 4BC.

Dawn Lake dead

Pioneer Radio Star Dawn Lake has died in Sydney at the age of 78. Dawn is the widow of the late Bobby Limb and is fondly remember for working with Jack Davey at 2GB. In the late 50’s she made the switch to Television with husband Bobby and the pair went on at a later stage to present ‘The Sound of Music Show’. It was that show that coined her famous catchcry ‘you tell ‘em love’.

Dancing Kate?

Expect to see at least one radio personality on the first series of Dancing With The Stars due to commence in Feb. Nova 100’s Kate Langbroek and long time member of Channel 10’s The Panel is tipped for the show.

Ann Peacock’s VIP party for 1000 at Crown Casino’s Palladium, for which more than 100 kilograms of smoked salmon was prepared and the party included some big radio identities like 3AW’s Ernie Sigley, Derryn Hinch and Ross Stevenson and  774’sTracey Curro and Triple M’s Sam Newman.
