A FIGHT is brewing between the state and federal governments over Tasmania falling off the dial of new digital radio technology. The new digital radio format began broadcasting in every other state capital on July 1, offering a greater range of ABC Radio channels and commercial radio stations. Users must buy a digital radio to receive the signal. It offers better sound quality, more stations and less interference. It also offers on-screen information and an ability to pause or rewind live radio. Some Hobart retailers are selling digital radios despite the service not being on the horizon any time soon.
