Don Chipp passed away overnight in Melbourne. The former Liberal Politician who founded the Australian Democrat Party passed away after a long battle with parkinsons disease.
In the late 1980’s Chipp turned his hand to broadcasting, joining 3AK when it was part of Bond Media. He presented the morning talk program until the station was sold to business man Peter Corso.
Many of the current on air staff at 3AW were part of 3AK at the time including Ross Stevenson, Keith McGowan, Darren James and Bruce Mansfield to name a few.
It was during his time at 3AK that Chipp exploded one of the biggest myths of Australian Politics, that when he said he wanted to keep the bastards honest he was not referring to the politicians. The comment was actually aimed at the electorate.
