THE Australian Film Television and Radio School has appointed Mark Collier as its new director of radio, replacing Steve Ahern who has opted to move into consultancy. Mark Collier is currently in South-East Asia training media in developing countries and is set to take up the new AFTRS role in July. Collier was News Director, Programme Director, General Manager and then Managing Director at 2UE before moving to the ABC. It was whilst he was News Director at 2UE that he gave a taxi driver named Ray (Hadley) his start in Sydney radio after Hadley picked up a fare (Collier) from the station one evening in the early 1980's.
