2GB have lost the plot. David Oldfield was one of the best announcers on the radio. I won't be listening to his replacement. Hopefully he will go to 2UE.

Maybe David Oldfield and Jim Ball could start their own program. Loved to listen to both. Without them on the waves we have no idea of what is going on in our town. They both tell it as it is.

I will miss David SOOOOO much. I work till late & used to look forward to the drive home in early hours of the morning. I thuoght he did a fantastic job of staying fair to all sides, and he always allowed ANYONE to have a go, he even read out all the worst emails he got sent he was just a genuinely dedicated guy. And poor Monicas doggy rescue now will not have his help online.
Wherever he pops up I will be sure to tune in! - March 29, 2010 at 5:20 PM

It is a shame 2GB for sacking David Oldfield. David is one of the best around. I am turning off 2GB to elsewhere.

What 2GB has done is an act of sheer bastardry.
It was bad enough getting rid of David Oldfield the way they did, but then to LIE about it and say he CHOSE to leave is even worse.
I have an email from someone at 2GB called Andreanna Candi of 2GB who emphatically denied that Oldfield was leaving or would be replaced and that was from late last week !
I hope 2UE have the good sense to put him on radio. Their current lineup is so poor that David could really turn things around for them. - March 30, 2010 at 3:38 AM

I am a welded on 2GB listener and thought David Oldfield did a wonderful job on the overnight programme. He had strong opinions and wasn't "wishy washy" like some broadcasters, yet allowed callers to have their say. I never once heard him be rude to a caller - not even to some really whacky ones. He just gently wound them to a close. I thought he was excellent and I think 2GB will rue the day they chose to dismiss him so disrespectfully.

I have a response from Ian Holland saying David Oldfield will stay on at 2GB, that's only a week ago.
How does 2GB spell "Credibility" because they have none. david was one of the best comentators on radi and I for one will be switching from 2GB to 2SM and 2UE, 2ue now have Mike Jeffreys, an excellent commentator. - March 30, 2010 at 8:19 AM

So disappointed and shocked to hear David Oldfield will no longer be on 2GB - I will be changing stations at night now and really hoping he is snapped up by another station. I just simply do not understand why David is no longer on air at 2GB - what is wrong with you people - you get someone really really good and you don't even know it - why didn't you ask the listeners first before you acted - crazy!

Nights will never be the same without being able to look forward to David's chat about everything from politics to favourite movies. He always listened, never make a fool of his listeners and was very compassionate to anyone with personal problems.
I'm sure 2GB will rue the day they gave him his marching orders. - March 30, 2010 at 2:42 PM

Can't believe David has gone. I work till around 3AM and always enjoyed his program as he told it like it was and was very entertaining. Anyone know the REAL reason he was sacked? 2UE here I come!

2gb put rubbish like Chris Smith back on air and then hang David Oldfied out to dry. They seriously have lost the plot. Alan Jones....if you are a major shareholder in the station, please do something about it.

David OLDFIELD was the best @GB had to offer, I am very disappointed the way Allen JONES dissmissed Mr OLDFIELD summarily without even telling the truth to the overnight true blue audience.
I hope 2ue scoop David up and subsequently clean up the ratings overnight, Daviid was fair, compitent, and aways showed us opinionated robust debate.
2gb has lost me. - March 30, 2010 at 5:06 PM

I am so bummed that David has gone from the airways. I work late and on my own and he was excellent company in the wee small hours. I never even like talkback before David, I used to listen to music, but found David's show and just loved it. Oh well, it is back to the iPod for me. 2GB are a bunch of nobs.

I thought that 2GB were always saying how astute its listeners were. I am shocked and astounded that they would sack David Oldfield and then say it was David'sidea. what did he do wrong? loyal followers whom he nurtured with respect, provided argument with research and intellectual rigor, informative, educational, good ratings. I even noticed the advertising that he passionately endorsed.
Why do you want to replace David's excellence with mediocrity and banal lonely chit chat- I didnt think this was 2GBs core value.
I have since tried to listen to David'swell meaning, homely but mumbling replacements. Ii will be watching where Oldfield goes so I can follow him. Come on 2UE- grab him.. - March 31, 2010 at 3:48 AM

Very sorry that David is no longer with 2GB, I always listened to him at night time, even set my alarm to do so enjoyed his views and his style of program.
I rang the station today and was told he no longer works there. I could not understand why someone else was presenting tin his time slot,Thought he may have been ill.
Shame we did not get a chance to say goodbye and also wish him well. Talented man hope he turns up on air again in the near future, I will certainly tune in to whatever station he goes to - March 31, 2010 at 6:16 AM

I am a fellow-insomniac and enjoyed listening to David Oldfield!! Although I did not agree with many of his views, it didn't matter as as he used to say, "I'm not here to be agreed with, but to give people a go! " and that he always did! He was very knowledgeable and developed a good rapport with his listeners and regular callers, even the annoying, crazy ones! ;-) I wish David all the best for his future career!!

Sandra you are so right I got a similar email from Ian Hooland and I am just disgusted with 2gb. If David did something wrong in their eyes, and I don't for one moment think he did, why aren't they upfront and at least we would have a reason for it. But they don't have a reason. What is Alan Jones doing?

Nothing more to add, they've said it all before me.
Something really smells there. I used to mostly listen to ABC Local Radio, BBC News and Radio National before David Oldfield, now in addition 2SM is interesting as it represents people around Newcastle and further up so I get to know the feel of those good people too. But the live and brain has disappeared from commercial radio. - March 31, 2010 at 11:49 AM

Like the others before me, I am extremely disappoonted
to learn of the sacking of David Oldfield. What a weak act.
I often cannot sleep and his show was so very interesting.
I very rarely have the radio on another station but with 2GB sinking this low, I will certainly check out other broadcasters.

Why are there not more of us commenting of the demise of David Oldfield. I am so disappointed that David is no longer on the air,at 2GB. I would wait up to listen to his comments. He was fair, courteous, brought to an end the long winded callers with charm, and I believe he reflected the opinion of grass roots Australians, who are concerned at the disintergration of our social structure, rights and beliefs. I wish David well, I do hope 2GB rue the day they did this to him and he goes to another station, I will follow him..

I think 2GB have created a serious rod for their backs and a formidible foe. If 2UE are smart enough, they will put Oldfield up against Jones or Hadley. Oldfield doesn't need to beat 2GB in the ratings, but if he wins away 4 or 5 ratings points away from one of 2GB's key slots, he will cost his former employers millions of dollars in revenue. It's that old adage, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" - they should have left him dwindling away at night on their own station rather than risk going up against him. Bring it on I say, Hadley is a wanker and Jones is old and tired, would love to see 2GB take a big hit.

I thought David was good and enjoyed his show up to point but he did not quite fill Jims shoes. But if they 2GB can grab Jim Balll ? That would be perfect right after Brian Wilshire. Maybe they can kick Chris Smith and have David Oldfield there instead.

I need to know the truth about the demise of David Oldfield. If the likes of Jones had anything to do with it - without good reason - this event will be the beginning of the end of 2GB. If there was good reason, let the public/listeners know without delay.
People are beginning to comment that 2GB is a 'secret society'! - March 31, 2010 at 7:52 PM

The Daily Telegraph is saying it is becuse David has to look after his sick mother. I am calling BS on this rumour. David often spoke about his mum's illness on air and the support they received from vet affairs. I agree with all those positive comments above. I loved listening to David & particularly admired his knowledge of Aussies at war, his presentations on Anzac Day & Remembrance Day with his wife Lisa. I am also disgusted by the hypocritical way David was sacked! I've already changed to 2UE for a lot of the weekend & if I find David there, that's where I'll go. At least David allowed us a chance to say where Australia is heading - sad!

David is very good.
I was disappointed when he was cut back from all-night to just 12 to 3am but now that he has gone I will listen to 2UE or ABC in the early morning time slot.
Gone are the days when I only listened to 2GB. I do like Brian Wiltshire and Jason Morrison but have gone off Allan Jones. Allan used to be very good but I think he has become to wrapped up in himself and lost his objectivity.
On the weekends I now listen to 2UE except when Luke Boner on air.
I would like to know why and how he went. - April 1, 2010 at 12:26 PM

Rick of March 31, Great suggestions. Very pro thinking but I'd leave out the personal bits at the bottom.
2GB is push push push sell sell sell no time for a breath, and it’s hard going quite honestly. And the recent casting changes have introduced heavy, blokey voices all of the same ilk. It's as if the chief feels secure only when those whom he gathers to surround him are just like him. Get all those old mates who are like me and then I'll really feel secure. It may not be surprising to learn that some are uncomfortable having Oldfield around because he doesn’t smoke, drinks only on weekends, doesn’t gamble shock horror, rides horses, dives, and is profoundly disciplined. I’m intrigued to learn the truths and I feel certain we can dig it out eventually.
Meanwhile it’s been a pleasure reading all the comments of the plu’s. Maybe we should form a group! - April 1, 2010 at 3:19 PM

I was shocked and angry when David was removed. As I was when Jim was removed and also Glen Wheeler. I hate the way 2gb treats their listeners with total disrespect. They want us to be there and without us they fail, but they treat us with total contempt. Glen is now back but I'm afraid I've moved on and Glen hasn't, I find him totally boring and just don't turn on now. I never liked Chris Smith even before I found out he was a groper, so it's not likely I'd turn him on now, I'd already turned off him before and couldn't believe they'd put him out there again. I'm usually asleep when Alan is on but don't mind him in very small doses as I'm not interested in sport or opera. Ray can be entertaining but the last hour is the same old banter every day and in all the day time programming there's far too many ads. There's more ads than program. I suffer it for Jason when I can because he's good value. David was the best and I must say I haven't had 2gb on at night since he's gone. I've been listening for about 35 years but there's not much left now. The continuous call team all through summer was a shocker. For someone who hates football, it's such a relief when the season is over and you hopefully look forward to some real entertainment and you get a bunch of boofy blokes talking about football and football players and the same boring, boring, boring banter throughout the entire summer! In fact, for the first time in decades I've been listening to other stations and my ipod. What happened to Pru McSween? She was a class act, but I don't see her in sight. Whoever makes up 2gb management, perhaps it's you who should be sacked and get some talent in there. By the way Luke Bona presents a good show and some of Brian Wilshire's show is unmissible, he's the only one left now telling us what the mainstream media won't. I do hope another station will give David a voice because we need to hear what he has to say. Australia needs David.

David Oldfield used to be Pauline Henson’s right hand man and was also supposed to be a racist person as well! However, since his interaction with honest and intelligent 2GB communities he became the king of the night time radio and much better than many closet racists of 2GB. Yet, 2GB splattered his blood all over their radio station.

If it is true, that Jim Ball is returning to 2GB, I believe it is sweet justice ! After the way David Oldfield heavily campaigned for Jim's programme, which of course resuted in Jim leaving.
David was always a very poor imitation of Jim Ball. I think 2GB realized this, as they have planned for this programme to be broadcast through their new station in Melbourne.
Sure, David Oldfield could give an insight in to the politicians about their thoughts and motives. But how? because he is still a politician to the core, who is a shameless self promoter and campaigner. Who would walk over anybody to get what he wants. Also maybe 2GB had, quite enough of the stories in the Telegraph fom the 2GB insider. NUDGE, NUDGE, WINK, WINK !!! - April 2, 2010 at 6:04 PM

I was hoping it WOULDN'T be Jim Ball that is replacing David, hoping for Mike Jeffries or Prue Macsween. Jim Ball is just a mean spirited old racist who prays on listeners fears and misunderstandings. David never shied away from criticising aspects of multiculturalism that didn't work, but he never tarred everyone with the same brush. Jim just hates Muslims and refuses to look at things objectively.

Radio stations are afraid of truth and they love to manufacture consent and opinion! Many good contributors who love o expose crimes and corruptions are silenced from the airwaves! These radio stations including radio 2GB is trying to incite irrational and illogical fear and paranoia due to prejudice and bigotry. They also do not have the gumption to debate or discuss any issue freely.
Recent removal of David Oldfield is another nail in coffin of free speech. - April 3, 2010 at 5:42 AM

I hope we will soon hear that David Oldfield will be back on the airways for even longer hours than on 2gb.I too am very dissappointed that David is gone.Absolute stupidity on 2gb's part.David is a true blue aussie that cares about Australia and it's citizens like most of his listeners, unlike the Federal and State Governments.David has been informing his listeners exactly what the Government has been doing in the fastest demise of this Country in it's history. We as Australian Citizens won't find these things out from Channel's 7, 9 and 10 as it seems to me they are gagged in letting the Australian people know exactly how Rudd and his goons have sold out Australia and it's people to China, undone every single policy that protected Australia and it's people and brought in ones to work totally against us.Kevin Rudd has sold out our Sovereignty , our rights as human beings and our way of life and how come he still has a job.He should be sacked not David Oldfield.Funny, this is the view of most Australians that we hear on the radio, yet you don't hear of that on the TV.Wake up Australia, David has given you all the true information, stand up and don't let it be in vain.Get rid of Rudd the Dudd and bring back DAVID OLDFIELD, we don't want him to leave oz and go to England like our other true blue aussie that loved our Country the way it was.WAKE UP AUSTRALIA, DON'T EVER ,EVER, EVER VOTE LABOR AGAIN.

Judging the response to both Jim Ball and David Oldfield it looks like they create much more debate than the Melbourne counterpart on 3AW. Melbourne overnight talk radio needs a size 12 bata scout up the backside so much so It looks like Jim Ball or David Oldfield need to fax their resume off to 1377 MTR.
