International football makes it long awaited return to Rugby Leagues heartland this month when the Newcastle Rep side hosts Great Britain on Friday 20 October at Energy Australia Stadium and the Supernetwork will have all the action covered.
'This is Newcastle's chance to re-visit the glory days of Rugby league before the Knights joined the National competition' said Newcastle Rugby League CEO, Jamie O'Connor
In the years gone by the Newcastle-Great Britain has always brought out the best in the locals and the last time Newcastle defeated Great Britain in a very spiteful clash was in 1962 in front of 22,000 people
In that match English front row Jack Wilkinson and John Shaw were sent off and Les Johns and John Sattler emerged as future Internationals. Bill Owens went on to play for Australia that year
Rugby League great Graham Hughes takes over from 2SM and Hall of Fame legend Frank Hyde to call the game live across the 2SM-2HD Supernetwork throughout NSW and South East Queensland and will be joined by the 2SM Talkin Sport team of rugby league internationals Mark Geyer and Paul Langmack. They will also be joined by well known and popular 2HD and Newcastle media personalities Mike Rabbitt and Frank Barrett
Graham Hughes said 'This has always been one of the great clashes in Rugby League and playing Newcastle has always been one of the toughest tests for visiting international teams, it should be a great game and we are looking forward to bringing all the action to you'
Supernetwork Chairman Bill Caralis concluded 'this is exciting for the Supernetwork and my only worry is that the match doesn't get to fiery and Mark Geyer drops the microphone and heads to the action, he's still very fit'
