Word has reached our inbox on more than one occasion over the last few months that there has been a smaller operator of radio stations showing more than a passing interest for a stand alone station amongst those that are up for grabs from MMG. In total the MMG stations to be sold are in Mareeba, Charters Towers, Emerald, Kingaroy, Mount Isa and Roma,
Queensland; Burnie, Devonport, Queenstown and Scottsdale (two licences each) in Tasmania; Young in NSW; and Warragul in Victoria. At this stage expect the darkhorse not to give up without a fight. An announcement is expected in the next week or two.
Could the darkhorse snatch a station?

given the fact that others are reporting 11 bidders are after the stations, would it really be surprising to have a "dark horse" amongst them????
with 11 bidders, it could go to anyone!
Sorry, but i think your email correspondents are either regurgitating chatter from the net, or just trying to pump this story up further. - February 22, 2008 at 4:36 AM

Nope - the small player is from QLD... and I'm not talking Prime. Let's say they have a spare 4 million.
